The tourism industry has become so vast and diverse that it is divided into different branches which are themselves divided into smaller and more specialized sectors. Ecotourism is one of the most important branches of the industry. The researches on ecotourism show that ecotourists enjoy higher levels of education and income and are more inclined to contribute to the sustainability of natural environments and cultural heritage of local communities than tourists. According to World Tourism Organization, ecotourism would be one of the fastest developing branches of tourism industry in the future. Taking note of the fact that Iran has numerous natural attractions and the need to train experts who have a thorough knowledge of environment (its challenges and capacities) and tourism (and its impacts on environment), the University of Science and Culture offered a master’s program in ecotourism.
